Death of an Inmate – Caleb Head

32 year of Caleb Head from the Red Earth First Nation died in custody on October 21, 2024.

At the time of his death he was incarcerated at Bowden Institution in Innisfail, Alberta serving an indeterminate sentence.

On April 24 2016, 22 year old Alyssa Nawakayas was found with life-threatening injuries outside of a home and airlifted to Saskatoon hospital for treatment.

Caleb would initially be charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapon possession, and breach of probation offences however the attempted murder charge would be upgraded to second degree murder after Alyssa succumbed to her injuries.

“As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.”
