New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is investigating the death of an inmate at a correctional facility in Renous, N.B., as a homicide.
On October 6, 2022, Richard King, an inmate from Atlantic Institution, was found badly injured from a serious assault in his cell. He was transported to hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
The Blackville detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) are currently investigating the incident.
At the time of death, the inmate had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which commenced on June 18, 2007, for second degree murder.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
At this time, no further information is available while the investigation is underway.
