On April 12, 2023, Oliver Murdock, an inmate serving time at Stony Mountain Institution, died while in custody of apparent natural causes.
At the time of death, Murdock had been serving a sentence of two years, and eight months for aggravated assault since July 6, 2021.
According to Winnipeg Police, Murdock stabbed another resident at 500 Balmoral street on March 28, 2018, after he entered their suite with a knife and glass shard from a mirror.

Murdock’s next of kin have been notified and as they do will all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances.
Correctional Service of Canada policy also requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
