Gary Beach, one of Canada’s longest serving inmates, dies at 79

On September 5 1969, Gary Beach of Hamilton murdered his estranged wife Jane Patricia Beach.

He stabbed her 15 times in the back and dropped three flower pots on her head after she returned home from a night out with friends.

He would be convicted of non-capital murder in January of 1970 and sentence to life in prison.

On April 17 2024, while incarcerated at the Beaver Creek Institution, Gary Beach passed away from natural causes at the age of 79.

In a media statement from Corrections Canada, they will review the circumstances concerning the death of an inmate and it is their policy that the coroner be contacted.
