A Winnipeg police officer, Const. Yvan Corriveau, 39, who was arrested on Thursday Sept. 22 on child pornography charges has since died.
According to Manitoba RCMP he was arrested at his home in Ile-des-Chênes.
The RCMP stated in a news release Friday afternoon that they executed a search warrant at his home after the RCMP’s internet child exploitation unit received several complaints from the national RCMP child exploitation crime centre about the possession of child pornography in southern Manitoba.
According to the press release Corriveau was charged with possessing, accessing, making available and making written child pornography. A judge then released him on a release order.
Evidence was seized from Corriveau’s home , but the RCMP would not provide further details of what they found.
His death is not considered suspicious, police said, and no further information about how he died was given.
According to Winnipeg Police Service, The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba, which looks into all serious incidents involving on- or off-duty officers in the province, has been contacted.
