Andrew Rae, an inmate from Stony Mountain Institution, died while in custody on December 12, 2023.
He was arrested in the fall of 2017 for the second degree murder of John MacDougall of Red Lake, Ontario and would be eventually convicted of manslaughter.
At the time of his death, he had been serving a sentence of 2 years, 9 months and 16 days.
In a media statement Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) stated they will review the circumstances surrounding his death and it is their policy that the police and the coroner be notified.
