On March 31, 2023, Dean Michael Devenny, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary, died while in custody.
Devenny was an American serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder, which began on Dec. 6 1989.
He was due to be deported at the completion of his sentence.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
