On August 17, 2022, Jeron Powell, an inmate from Mission Institution, died in custody. The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
The cause of death has not been released and as in all cases involving the death of an inmate Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
At the time of death of his death he had been serving a sentence of 23 years and 8 months for attempted murder and armed robbery.
Back In 2009, Jeron Powell and Craig Buckle attempted to rob a Beer store in the Symington Avenue and Dupont Street area.
After arriving on Wallace Avenue, police were allegedly fired on by one of the suspects with a pellet gun and proceeded to fire back. One officer was grazed above the eye. He was treated in hospital and released.
