On June 21, 2023, Jean Leduc, an inmate from the Archambault Institution, died while in custody of natural causes, according to Correctional Services Canada.
He was convicted on Sept.29, 1989 and sentenced to an indeterminate sentence for the 1987 murder of 14 year old Renee Gerard.
Renee was the daughter of Leduc’s common law wife Germaine Gauthier.

According to the North Bay Nugget, her body had been found in a swampy area and she had been strangled.
“As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires the coroner be notified.”
