On June 24, 2023, Vuk Peric, an inmate from Warkworth Institution, died while in custody.
Warkwork is a medium security federal prison approximately 60 km southeast of Peterborough.
According to a statement from Northumberland OPP, Mr Peric was seriously injured from a reported assault. He was examined by CSC staff and taken to hospital.
It was announced by OPP and Correctional Service Canada on Sat. June 24 that Mr Peric had passed away as a result of the injuries he received.
Vuk Peric had been serving a sentence of four years, eight months and 14 days, for offences including possession of a schedule I/II substance for the purpose of trafficking, possess forged documents, and criminal harassment, since June 15, 2021.
“As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.”
