John Daley, an inmate since 1987, died in custody on October 4 1987.
He was 61 years old.
On Oct 6 1987 he along with Dale Carl Barron and Phillip Sinwaski robbed the Great Canadian Jewelry Store in Hamilton Ontario.
The heist was valued at $750, 000 and all the jewelry and cash were eventually recovered.

While serving a 10 year sentenced at Millhaven Institution for armed robbery, John Daley along side Kenneth Anthony Makichuk would murder another inmate, Rodney Keeping.
They had barricaded themselves inside Rodney’s cell, stabbed him to death and prevented the guards from immediately entering.

John Daley would plead guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after serving 14 years.
In a media release Correctional Service of Canada stated they will review the circumstances surrounding his death and next of kin have been notified.
