Death of an Inmate – Stephen Beszterczey

Stephen Beszterczey, 47, who was convicted of the first degree murder of his estranged wife in 2015, died in custody on January 13, 2024.

Carolin Beszterczey was found deceased in her Quinte West apartment in September 24, 2012 after friends contacted police to report her missing. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled.

Beszterczey was found guilty of first-degree murder and was serving an indeterminate sentence at the time of his death.

His cause of death has not been revealed, however in a Correctional Service of Canada media statement they say they will review the circumstances surrounding his death and it is their policy that the police and the coroner are notified.
