Death of an inmate – Trevor Stewart

On June 20, 2023, 29 year old Trevor Stewart, an inmate serving his sentence at Joyceville Institution, died while in custody.

At the time of his death he had only served on month of a two year sentence for failure to comply with a prohibition order, fraud over $5000, and luring a child under 16 years.

Correctional Service of Canada stated in a media release that next of kin had been notified but did not release the cause of death.

Earlier in May 2023, Stewart plead guilty to multiple charges that included luring a minor. He attempted to meet a 13 year old girl for sex.

Instead of meeting a child, he was confronted by a man with a video camera who poses as minors online to catch child predators.

“As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.”
