Nick and Lisa Masee disappeared during the summer of 1995.

The previous evening, they declined an invitation to join friends to watch the Symphony of Fire fireworks display in Vancouver’s English Bay.

The couple said they had a meeting with a potential investor who said he was interested in investing $10 million into a company Nick was currently involved with, Turbodyne Technologies Inc.

Nick Masee made a reservation for four at his favourite restaurant, Trader Vic’s in Coal Harbour.

Trader Vics – Nick and Lisa Masee had a reservation to meet a mysterious investor here, but no one showed for
dinner or cancelled.

However, no one from the dinner party ever showed up, nor did anyone call to cancel. The restaurant staff felt was odd behaviour for Nick.

The couple were apparently seen together next door at the Westin Bayshore’s Garden Lounge from about 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Nick Masee was wearing a jogging suit and the couple shared a bottle of wine.

The next morning, Aug. 11, 1994, Lisa Masee made two calls from Nick’s cellphone. She called her boss, and she called her husband’s business partner to say they’d both be away for a few days.

The two calls were routed through Bowen Island’s repeater, this means they could have been made from the Sunshine Coast district, but the calls also could have come from Point Grey on Vancouver’s West Side.

The last two phone calls made from Nick Masee’s cellphone the summer of 1995.

Lisa Masee’s sister tried to contact the couple a week later. The house was unlocked and the car parked in the driveway. Two plastic zip ties were found on the ground by the front door.

Their passports had been left behind, and their bank accounts appeared to have been untouched.
