On Sunday, March 12, 2023, at approximately 4:00 a.m., members of East Division responded to call of an armed person on Simcoe Street, Oshawa.
When police arrived the found two female victims suffering from stab wounds.
Both were transported to Toronto-area trauma centres. One of the victims, Katie Kainz, 26, has since succumbed to her injuries.
Kainz is Durham’s sixth homicide victim of 2023.
Kainz graduated from Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough with a degree as a mental health and drug addictions worker.

Durham Police have issued a Canada wide warrant for 37 year old Adam Odette, wanted for second-degree murder and attempted murder.
He is described as heavily tattooed, with “legendary” tattooed across his forehead.
Police consider him to be armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Odette is advised to not approach him, but instead call 911.
